Samsung NC10′s Kubuntu finally mutes speakers when using headphone

January 29th, 2009

When I bought my Samsung NC10, I noticed some weird behaviour of the sound card; when I plugged in my headphone the speakers still played sound as well. This morning I updated my Kubuntu running Samsung NC10 with a new kernel: 2.6.27-11-generic. After a reboot  I noticed I finally had a headphone slider in KMixer.

Alsamixer showed a couple of more sliders than before. When I just installed my netbook I only saw the “Master” and “PCM” slider. Time to test if the speakers do mute when I plugged in my earphones. Silly enough I heard no sound at all! Neither my speakers nor the headphones gave a sound. I tried some of the slider of Alsamixer without succes. Then I moved the front slider in KMixer more upwards and there was the sound!

I can confirm: With this this new kernel Samsung NC10 does mute your speakers when using headphones. Now I just need to wait for the brightness key fix…
