Display rotation menu for OSX

March 19th, 2009

The monitor I am working on is a Samsung 244T. This monitor has the capability of rotating from landscape to portrait mode. OSX supports rotating the screen, but to do so you need to go trough a lot of menus.

There is a tool called Display Rotation Menu which makes rotating your screen a lot easier. One click is enough to switch from portrait to landscape and vice versa. Did I mention it is free? ;)

Alt+F2 brings up the display preferences window on OSX (and Alt+F10 brings up the sound preferences).

Do you really need to have yet another icon in your menubar, just for rotating your screen? (How often do you use it, really?)

Actually pretty often. Since I play guitar frequently it is very nice to have your tab (guitar notation) in portrait mode. This avoids scrolling while playing. With photo editing it can be quite useful as well…

Another remark is the fact that this program does not ask if the new settings are ok. It just applies them, which avoids clicking another “yes” button.
